ECDL/ICDL Community Mourns the Loss of Dr Amr Azzouz

The ECDL and ICDL community mourns the loss of a key figure in the history of our programme with the passing of Dr Amr Azzouz, ICDL Programme Director at the UNESCO Cairo Office.

Dr Azzouz had battled bravely with serious illness over the past couple of years. Sadly he lost his courageous battle late last week. Through his work in UNESCO Dr Azzouz devoted his life to the advance of science and technology. By introducing ICDL Amr helped develop the use of ICT in education and raise the level of computer literacy in the Arab world. Dr Azzouz, more than anyone, was instrumental in introducing the ICDL programme to the Arab States.

The success of the programme in the region today is testament to his vision and commitment. Those of us who were fortunate to know him will remember him as a warm hearted friend, generous with both his time and his talents.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife and family as well as his many colleagues in the UNESCO Cairo Office.

Jim Friars,
Chairman of the ECDL Foundation
