ICDL sees soaring registrations from Dalian, China
With the local support of ICDL China, the “Dalian Secondary School Students ICDL Competition” has seen increasing publicity and soaring registrations.

With the 4th Competition successfully held for over 2,000 participants in nine (9) Test Centres over the weekend of November 25th and 26th, Dalian has marked a new record in promoting the ICDL programme in this beautiful coastal city of northern China. The total registrations this time signifies an over 100% growth compared to the 3rd Competition earlier in the year. Students competed on all seven (7) ICDL Core Level Modules using the latest version 6 of the ICDL Test System, totaling more than 14,000 ICDL tests over a single weekend.

During the Award Ceremony for the 3rd Dalian Secondary School Students ICDL Competition held on October 16th, government officials from the local Bureau of Education, the management of Dalian Education Information Technology Centre (DEITC) and representatives from most local secondary schools shared their excitement for further developing the local Information Society through the promotion of ICDL. In her opening speech, Director Chunlin Chen from DEITC said that “… the ICDL Competition has stimulated the enthusiasm among the students for acquiring computer skills, which has also helped to motivate all Dalian citizens to improve their basic IT skills. This is a strong push for the informatisation and internationalisation of Dalian.”

Winners of the competition received their ICDL certificates as well as prizes sponsored by the local government, corporations and Test Centres. In addition, students from Dalian have won the first three prizes in the ECDL Foundation’s Candidate Awards for China titled “ICDL – A Brighter Future”. The winner of the first prize, Miss Qian Chen told the audience “… the beautiful interaction with ICDL brought confidence in me, from which I will benefit for all my life”.
