The new Geographic Information Systems (GIS) certification program has been announced during a special event "Information Systems for the protection and the valorization of the cultural patrimony", which was organised by the Italian Ministry for the Cultural Heritage (MiBAC). The event was included in the program of Forum PA a yearly exhibition, supported by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. Public administration representatives, companies and citizens met at this special event in Rome.

The GIS program certifies skills related to basic concepts of territorial information systems, geodesy and topography applied to GIS and digital cartography, as well the GIS analysis and display methods. The GIS Syllabus includes three modules: Cartographic representation, GIS components and GIS software practical use.

The GIS certification is fully endorsed by the ECDL Foundation.
