The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) is recognised as a centre of excellence for vocational research and for the progressive development of vocational education and training (VET) in Germany.  In recognition of the importance of IT skills for all staff, BIBB implemented  ECDL as a standard for basic IT certification.  A further step in the endorsement of ECDL was achieved when Manfred Kremer, the President of BIBB, completed his ECDL Certification. As head of BIBB he knows the importance that basic IT education has in the work environment.

In recognition of this achievement and in recognition of his efforts to promote IT skills in vocational education, Mr. Kremer was presented with his ECDL Certificate by the CEO of ECDL Foundation, Damien O’Sullivan at the recent ECDL Foundation Forum in Bonn, Germany.  The ECDL Foundation Forum was attended by high-level representatives from international organisations across all sectors and also from ECDL Foundation’s global network of 148 national operators.

"ECDL offers an internationally recognised standard for a basic education in the use of information technology, which is essential in the modern working world”, said President Kremer on receipt of his certificate, also stating; “In the information and knowledge society the basic mastery of information and communication technology has become the fourth cultural technique – besides reading, writing and arithmetic.  This is what I intended to demonstrate with my ECDL examination.  Action speaks louder than words!””
Head of DLGI (the ECDL Foundation National Operator in Germany) Thomas Michel, acknowledged BIBB’s association with ECDL Foundation as "A fantastic sign". "BIBB are once again promoting the importance of ICT in education". Also according to Mr. Michel, “It (ECDL) stands for a level of qualification, defines a level of knowledge, which is necessary in almost every office nowadays“.

The endorsement of  ECDL by BIBB reached its completion when BIBB became an ECDL accredited test centre (ATC) in September 2010, offering not only in-house ECDL training but also in-house ECDL testing to all its staff and integrating ECDL in the curriculum of its trainees.
