Aligning the internationally recognised ICT Certification is a further step by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) to up-skill the workforce and support efforts to raise productivity.

1st December 2010

Enhancing the digital competence of the workforce is a positive measure of increasing productivity and proactively positioning a national economy to generate economic growth and to react swiftly to the changes in the global economy.

This alignment through the Memorandum of Understanding signed between ECDL Foundation and WDA means that WDA Continuing Education and Training Centres and Approved Training Organisations, which provide Employability Skills Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (ES WSQ) Information Communication Technologies (ICT) training, will start offering ICDL Syllabus 5.0 and ICDL Advanced modules from 1st December 2010 onwards. These modules will replace the existing Basic ICT and Workplace ICT modules under the ES WSQ framework.  The collaboration with WDA signifies the recognition of ICDL as a leading practical ICT skills certification programme welcomed by the workforce and employers in Singapore.

According to Dr Hee Soo Yin, Director, Generic Skills Development Division of WDA:

"Information Technology is a critical enabler of productivity and value creation in a knowledge-based economy. Employers will benefit from having a workforce equipped with ICT and digital competencies. The collaboration between WDA and ICDL will add value to individuals who, on achieving the ES WSQ Statement of Attainment for successful completion of relevant ES WSQ ICT programmes, will also be conferred the relevant internationally recognised ICDL certification. ”
