Following an extensive review, the ICDL certification programme has been awarded an ISTE Seal of Alignment for Readiness, in recognition that ICDL, “provides a valuable assessment of participants’ foundational skills and knowledge as described by the 2016 ISTE Standards for Students”.
Headquartered in Virginia, USA, ISTE is a non-profit organisation which serves more than 100,000 education stakeholders across the world, and which creates and maintains a widely adopted set of education technology standards.
ICDL was found by ISTE to meet all 28 indicators of the 2016 ISTE Standards for Students across all seven standards areas, including ‘Computational Thinker’, ‘Empowered Learner’ and ‘Innovative Designer’.
ISTE’s expert reviewers found that ICDL modules are, “impressive for both the scope and depth of the foundational knowledge and skills they address”, and that, “by participating in ICDL educators can learn valuable information on the foundational digital skills and knowledge they or their students possess”.
Daniel Palmer, Head of Market Development, ICDL Foundation commented, “We are delighted that the quality and relevance of the ICDL programme has been validated by ISTE, a highly respected global standards body in the field of education technology. In particular, obtaining 100% coverage of all areas of the ISTE standards at the readiness level represents great progress for us compared to previous versions of the ICDL programme, and compared to competing programmes which are unable to offer this complete alignment. Along with our recently announced complete coverage of the European DigComp framework, this shows that ICDL offers the most comprehensive solution to educators looking for an internationally validated digital skills certification for their students.”
The ICDL programme will be showcased as a Seal of Alignment holder at the ISTE 2017 Conference, June 25-28 in San Antonio, Texas, USA.
