SOS Children’s Village Philippines has successfully been accredited as an ICDL Test Centre. SOS Children’s Village is a private, non-political, non-denominational organisation that provides long-term family-based care to children in need.

The accreditation of the centre is part of SOS Children’s Villages’ wider plans to pilot the use of ICT in SOS families, under the organisation’s overall strategic plan.

SOS Philippines will be implementing one of its pillar projects, Digital Village, to address the increasing digital divide between participants of the SOS programme and the outside world. This project seeks to address the issue of limited or non-existent access to ICT tools to provide SOS children and young people the best chances to join the job market and become self-reliant through mastery in ICT technology.

The ICT training will be first implemented in two Digital Villages in Lipa and Davao. This will be done in two Phases: Phase 1 will focus on capacity building of SOS caregivers and young beneficiaries to teach them about the basics of computer navigation and office application tools. Phase 2 will focus on the young adult participants’ ICT skills and honing their employability skills through ICDL modules.
